Inspect the evidence trail

Look around the thermostat housing, electric water pump area, radiator end tanks, hose junctions, and the underside after a proper warm test drive. Pink, white, or crusty residue matters even when the coolant level looks correct on viewing day.

Watch temperature behavior

Use live data to compare requested and actual coolant temperature. Slow warm-up, temperature swings, fan noise after gentle driving, or heater inconsistency can point to thermostat control, sensor plausibility, or trapped air after a previous repair.

Ask for invoices, not reassurance

A recent coolant top-up without pressure-test proof is not maintenance history. Ask whether the cooling system was pressure-tested, vacuum-filled, and checked again after heat cycles.
