P0088: Fuel rail pressure too high

Measured fuel-rail pressure exceeds the value requested by the engine controller.

Common symptoms

  • Hard starting
  • Rough running
  • Reduced power
  • Fuel-system warning

Likely causes

  • Sticking pressure-control valve
  • Biased pressure sensor
  • Restricted return
  • Pump metering fault

First checks

  • Compare requested and actual rail pressure
  • Inspect sensor wiring
  • Test regulator command and return circuit safely

Important

Common-rail fuel is extremely high pressure; use rated equipment and never loosen a live high-pressure connection.

A fault code identifies a detected condition, not a failed part. Confirm manufacturer-specific subcodes and live data.
