P0480: Cooling fan control circuit 1

The ECU cannot control or verify the primary electric cooling-fan circuit.

Common symptoms

  • Cooling fan inoperative
  • Fan running at full speed
  • Overheating in traffic
  • Air-conditioning performance loss

Likely causes

  • Failed fan assembly
  • Relay or fuse fault
  • Fan controller failure
  • Damaged wiring

First checks

  • Check fan fuse and power supply
  • Command the fan with diagnostics
  • Inspect wiring and fan-module communication

Important

Avoid traffic and heavy load until reliable fan operation is restored; overheating can damage the engine quickly.

A fault code identifies a detected condition, not a failed part. Confirm manufacturer-specific subcodes and live data.
