P0730: Incorrect gear ratio

The gearbox input and output speeds do not match the gear ratio the controller expected.

Common symptoms

  • Flare between gears
  • Harsh shifts
  • Limp mode
  • Delayed engagement

Likely causes

  • Low or degraded transmission fluid
  • Internal clutch slip
  • Mechatronics or solenoid fault
  • Speed-sensor or adaptation issue

First checks

  • Scan gearbox data and ratio errors
  • Check fluid level and service history using the correct procedure
  • Assess shift behavior cold and hot

Important

Continued driving with actual clutch slip can turn a repairable issue into a gearbox rebuild.

A fault code identifies a detected condition, not a failed part. Confirm manufacturer-specific subcodes and live data.
