P0741: Torque converter clutch stuck off / performance

The torque converter clutch is not locking as expected or slip remains too high.

Common symptoms

  • Higher cruising RPM
  • Shudder
  • Transmission warning
  • Poor fuel economy

Likely causes

  • Torque converter clutch wear
  • Valve-body or solenoid fault
  • Low or degraded fluid
  • Internal pressure-control issue

First checks

  • Monitor converter slip during cruise
  • Check fluid level and service history
  • Scan transmission adaptation and pressure faults

Important

Ignoring converter slip can contaminate fluid and worsen internal transmission wear.

A fault code identifies a detected condition, not a failed part. Confirm manufacturer-specific subcodes and live data.
