P2459: Diesel particulate filter regeneration frequency

The ECU has detected that DPF regeneration is occurring more frequently than expected.

Common symptoms

  • Frequent cooling-fan operation
  • Higher fuel use
  • Rising oil level
  • DPF warning

Likely causes

  • Excessive soot production
  • Short-trip use
  • Pressure or temperature sensor bias
  • Ash-loaded DPF

First checks

  • Review regeneration distance history
  • Check soot and ash estimates
  • Diagnose injector, EGR, boost, and thermostat faults

Important

Repeated regeneration can dilute engine oil with fuel; check oil level and condition promptly.

A fault code identifies a detected condition, not a failed part. Confirm manufacturer-specific subcodes and live data.
