P261A: Coolant pump B control circuit open

The ECU detects an open circuit in an auxiliary or electrically driven coolant-pump circuit.

Common symptoms

  • Cooling warning
  • Poor cabin heat
  • Overheating after shutdown
  • Reduced power

Likely causes

  • Failed auxiliary pump
  • Open wiring
  • Connector corrosion
  • Fuse or control-module fault

First checks

  • Identify the vehicle-specific pump B location
  • Command the pump with diagnostics
  • Check power, ground, and circuit continuity

Important

Pump B serves different circuits by model; confirm whether it cools the engine, turbo, charge cooler, or heater.

A fault code identifies a detected condition, not a failed part. Confirm manufacturer-specific subcodes and live data.
